Cory and Stacey were awesome they even laughed with me, not at me, when I ripped the butt on my pants jumping up and down on the stone walls at the Columbia Gorge Hotel last night. I wore my best undies that had little Monkeys on them. They looked like those old sock monkeys that mom thought were cool to make. You know those thick grey socks with the red heel.
I grabbed the shots of Cory kissing Stacey's shoulder as well as them sitting on the bridge with a bit of a draft. Then made a quick trip to the bathroom with a sewing kit that my second photographer had in her bag (what seriously in her photo bag). NICE... I knew that 6th grade home economics class would pay off.

The cutest kiss at the aisle! This 19 week old baby girl in the belly kiss makes you melt. September in the Columbia Gorge is my favorite month for weddings. Beautiful skies, little rain, cooler temperatures and wonderful venues like the Columbia Gorge Hotel.

My image from last night made it to the front page of KATU this morning. Here is a screen capture of my desktop of the image of hood illuminated by the flames. I hope the fire runs into the old Gnarl Ridge fire and runs out of fuel fast. Our wedding venue from back in the day ;) Mt. Hood B&B (bed and breakfast) has no view of the mountain just a huge swath of smoke overhead. I hope it clears up for the weekend brides. http://www.katu.com/

Elliot and Keri were a delightful couple to meet and photograph. I am glad they decided to make the trip from Seattle and get married in the Gorge. Here are a few of my favorites from the wedding. What great weather to end the month of April with. The wedding and reception were held at Stonehedge Gardens here in Hood River "The Columbia Gorge". This is one of my favorite venues. First the food is absolutely amazing. Mike your 24hour marinade is wonderful! Second I can walk to this venue from home. It is not often that my commute is so short.

Took an evening bike ride with the kid trailer full of photo gear. It was funny when I started to be quiet because I actually thought for a second that I had a sleeping kid in it. I must say it was a pleasure to have such well behaved photo gear in the trailer.
This shot is looking back west to Hood River with the Hood River bridge and White Salmon in the image. The orange sky is from the city lights illuminating the clouds. Riding back with the headlamp I saw a Bobcat on the side of the bike trail and stopped 15 feet from him. He was stunned by the light and speed that I came up on him. Just frozen their for a time looking like a big and wild house cat.

Sunset wedding 01/11/11 in Maui. Just finished having dinner with the bride and groom after an incredible wedding and shoot on the beach tonight. Here are a few of the favorites. The beach was busy with other weddings, tourists, and a photo class shooting a swimsuit model. We were the last ones to leave the beach. It was ours and ours alone as we used every last bit of light in the sky as we could.

HDR or NOT

HDR or High Dynamic Range photography is the combination of 3 or more images with bracketed exposures. This was an HDR shot of the Hood River Hotel using a single RAW file to create 3 bracketed jpgs instead of the three bracketed images from on location. HDR can capture far greater range of light. You can see the major difference is the darker areas in the HDR have a more affective fill light. This was a first experiment with HDR.

First Light on Last Day 2010

First light captured on the last day of 2010. Why first light because I was asleep by 9:30 new years eve. The youngest kid is like a bird and wakes the second any light creeps in the window. This is the only benefit of short winter days. She actually sleeps.
This image was taken about 30 minutes before sunrise in a construction site of for new homes. The building process stopped at a paved street with utility lines pulled due to the weakened housing market. I had to carefully hide all the existing houses, bulldozed land, and even the invasive scotch broom doesn't look so troublesome in the photo.

I was captured trying to blend in at a wedding. I am not too sure if it is working. Truth is I sat in proximity to the kids playing during the ceremony to sneak closer into their world. His action figure just had such a cool personality as he animated it just before the I Do's. It is always fun when editing

to see how the different angles that are captured at the same time bring the story together. Gorge Crest Vineyards is one of the best venues to photograph. I am already missing hot summer days in a black suit.

National Night out Mt. Tabor Portland

National Night Out! Our block had a surprise this year, a jumping castle, and a chance to shoot a Portland Fire Department hose. Nice work Dave and Kim for hosting the event. The kids slept great after some dancing to live music of Rouke vanDerVeen of Johnny Limbo and The Lug Nuts. Hearing Bailey yelling Roukes at the end of the set made me smile.

Spring Break

St. Patrick's day in the Columbia Gorge. Rain and Oregon Weather were here as expected. What a great couple to shoot. We had two hours to shoot romantics and the ceremony. But it all came together. Even the hard rain held off until the last minute before they said I Do. Crown Point offered an amazing back drop.
Mike and Cristin met cycling they brought their bike with them to the wedding. So I grabbed a clip from Quicksilver the music starts out with the sound of the bike, barking, dogs, and honking horns. It is a little bit of cycling stimulus. This was the first time I mixed a song on garage band.

ZOO Lights

I used a LED light Bailey plays with to light her face it almost looks like a flash.
Oregon Zoo Lights had fun playing with the D700 and shooting at 6400 iso. I was able to shoot everything with available light from the street lights and Christmas lights. Can't wait to get out and shoot some evening weddings. Visit www.studioido.net

Well we got out last Saturday to Hood River fun land pumpkin patch. I took out my old nikon d100 that I never shoot. Have been kicking the idea of turning it into a Inferred Camera. But it works really well for a camera to train the Bailey, our 3 year old, to become the next generation of photographers. Who would ever think a $1600 camera from 6 years ago would be left in the hands of a little girl and dad wouldn't even be nervous. I am was impressed with the image quality from the slow old camera. Here are some shots.

David and Michaela from the San Fransisco Bay area got married up at Husum Highlands ( http://www.husumhighlands.com/ ). I was out shooting again alone :( I love the shots of the gorge when viewed full screen I could see the hundreds of wind surfers and kite boarders down on the river. I shot this secret gorge view a year ago and it was great this year it changed and was even better. Many burned down trees have been cut away. Next year it will be gone. 4 bluff houses burned and only the foundations remain. Temporary electric is in and new construction will be starting soon. First Satuday of the summer free.......... Wait I worked as a second with another photographer. Was I crazy ummmm YES. 10 am till 12pm with lots of driving. The plus side was I did not have to touch the images after the day... Yeah my bottom is feeling better already :) It is important to keep some relationships growing. I am not that grumpy I am just playing.
The wedding was fun it was a COWBOY theme well they are cowboys and girls. www.theranchonbeavercreek.com is in its first year as a wedding venue out of Lebanon Oregon near Albany and Corvallis.

This was the second time this summer that I ran in to Dawn Grishaw Harpist of DW DUO. www.dwduo.com Dawn sings, plays the Harp, and DJ's the event. I know that I have none of those skills so what I will remember to do is stay behind the camera and not on the microphone.

07/24/08 A quick wedding on a Thursday night. I would love to fill all my Thursdays with weddings. First wedding of the season where I had to shoot solo. It was a new set of challenges to get all the angles and all the shots done in 4hrs. Sitting here looking at the computer screen I know this couple will be happy with there images. That is my single biggest motivation to continue to improve my ability to document your wedding.

Eric and Amy impress me again. I was so captivated with how man people love this couple. Listening to I think 15 or so people toast them. I wondered how many people over in Jamesen Park just sat and listened to the 30-35 minutes of tributes echoing off the surrounding buildings. I have never seen so many people have so many good things to say from neighbors to parents. I think I need to keep in contact with this fun couple.

Rooftop venue in the Pearl District, who could ask for anything more. The Ecotrust is such a known green building but also a very functional building.

I was out in full force with
Christina Beck (fellow photographer from Washington) This past Saturday. I am impressed with her growth as a photographer. I want to steal her new lens. But then of course I would also have to switch over to Cannon gear.
I am still missing romantic couple shots on the town for this couple. No matter how hard I tried to pull them away from their guests. It was not going to happen. They are social butterflies and everyone wanted a moment with them. SO...... I told Amy not to change her hair style or color during the honeymoon. Keep looking for our dress up and shoot on the town later in August.

July 12th 2008 Paris Illinois

This was such a fun wedding. It always helps when it is family. My favorite moment in this event was when I was shooting the Bride and Groom first dance with my daughter asleep on my back in a Ergo kids carrier. She always wonders who the princess is when I go to work. Today she got to dance with the princess and all her cousins. What a great time. This was a huge wedding 300 guests and a large wedding party. I just want to say thanks to all the military folks who do their jobs so we can live our lives. The Midwest has a lot of hard working Americans. Small town America is a special place. Breakfast with all the family at the Bon Ton. Well lets just say everyone says hi and touches the toes of the baby 5 months old as we move about the restaurant. Every face had so much history you could read it on their faces. The Oregon family (us) were stark white like we just came out of a cave. The folk in Illinois were all tan. I feel like our summer took to long to get here.

Some how I survived flying with my two kids to Indianapolis Indiana then drove for two hours to Paris Illinois.

Had a wonderful time photographing at Beckenridge Vineyards http://www.beckenridge.com/ this past Thursday. Matt and Ashley were easy to photograph and work with. They are by far mature beyond their years.
Photographer Lori Lucus was out with me full force this week. She was again the super champ photographer that I love work with. We managed to shoot the split formals in no time. We also went through the family shots in style so everyone had a chance to enjoy the meal.

I am running a special for families. This is the last weekend I have open for the Summer to shoot some non wedding stuff.

Last weekends engagement shoot turned out wonderful. We started off at Mt. Tabor then off to their house for a few cozy shots. Then an outfit change and off again to the SE Waterfront.

Studio i do wedding photography at Andina's in the Pearl and The Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm.

Michael and Natalie got married at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm. It was a cold spring so the tulips were late. Not to mention the Snow and rain on the day. I can honestly say they were a great couple to work with. Michael is the nicest guy and he had absolutely no stress over the wedding. The sun breaks came out at just the right moments for him knowing he had some good karma.

As you can see in this picture the sun and clouds. We just drove up I-5 ten minutes ago and had snow on the road and traffic slowed to 15 miles and hour. We took advantage of the light and the blooming trees on the water front. This lasted for only 20min.

Trying to get some content up and link this to my website so search engines can begin to crawl.
